One of the earliest personal injury lawsuits against JUUL, brought by parents alleging the company’s deceptive marketing led their child to nicotine addiction.

A youth plaintiff sues JUUL for targeting minors through misleading advertising, resulting in nicotine addiction and related health harms.

San Francisco Unified School District v. Juul Labs Inc., et al
Case No. 19-cv-08177

The school district sues JUUL for creating a public nuisance and increasing administrative and health burdens by fueling youth vaping in schools.

Published Opinion

Colgate v. JUUL Labs, Inc., 402 F. Supp. 3d 728 (N.D. Cal. 2019)

This precedent-setting opinion allowed critical claims to proceed against JUUL based on its marketing tactics and nicotine design. The court recognized the plausibility of targeting youth with addictive formulations and dismissed JUUL’s attempt to compel arbitration.

Firm founder Esfand Nafisi is a class action attorney with nearly two decades of experience litigating complex cases in state and federal courts. A graduate of Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, he is licensed to practice in California, New York, Washington, D.C., and Illinois. Esfand began his career at a leading national defense firm, where he was part of a trial team that secured a $125 million settlement in antitrust and false advertising litigation. He later focused exclusively on representing plaintiffs in consumer protection and product liability class actions on both coasts.
